Singing
1Can you sing?
Yes indeed, I can. While my voice is not perfect, I can sing well enough to impress people at a party!
2Do you like to sing?
I absolutely love singing. Although I just discovered my singing ability like 3 or 4 years ago and it’s definitely not perfect, but singing to me is just to enjoy music, you know. Often when I’m into a song, I can’t help myself singing it day and night.
3When do you like to sing?
I sing whenever I feel like, when I’m bored or when I’m happy. And since I’m not a so-called performer, most of the time I sing for myself.
4How often do you sing now?
Well as I already mentioned, to me singing is all about enjoying myself, so unless that song is so amazing, or my voice is so surprisingly incredible on that day that I can keep singing for hours, otherwise I definitely can go a day without any singing.
5What kinds of music do you like to sing?
I must say it depends on my mood. If I’m so down, singing some songs which bring back some past memories could make me feel somehow released, and on the days when I’m so motivated, so energetic, I would sing the songs that are full-of-hope and sunshine and dreams. Yeah, so you can tell that I don’t stick with a certain kind of music.
6Is it difficult to sing well?
Indeed. Unless you have a beautiful voice as a Gift from God, or you at least have gained yourself some basic knowledge about notes, vocal ranges and beat, etc., that it’s easier for you to go further in your singing career, otherwise yes, singing well would be a huge challenge.
7Do you want to be a singer?
Well, from what I’ve known, being a singer is not easy at all. It’s not just about performing, but it’s also involved interaction with fans and other colleagues. Based on what I’ve known about showbiz, and even the music industry in general, I think that is not a place for me.
Speaking Part 1
1 Do you like reading?
Yes, I’m definitely a bibliophile (a person who loves to read)! I believe that books are a way to not only escape, but also gain more knowledge. By the same token, people who read tend to have a richer vocabulary and a higher level of general knowledge, so they tend to have more to talk about, and are thus more interesting.
2 Do you read electronic book ?
Definitely yes. I’m a real sucker for e-books as they are portable. I often download my favorite books and copy them to my smartphones or Ipads and when I’m on the bus in other public places, I will take my hi-tech devices out and start to read right on my phone.
3 What kind of books do you like to read?
I love reading anything that falls under literary fiction. By this I mean authors like Virginia Woolf, Jane Austen and Haruki Murakami. I can’t get enough of Kafka on the shore!
4 What was your favorite book as a child?
I remember being very fond of a book called “My Sister’s Keeper”. I recall that it was the story of two sisters, one of which needed a kidney transplant. Although the sister was initially apprehensive (scared; nervous) to do so, she ended up donating a kidney to her sister and saving her.
5 Have you lent books to other?
At times, I reckon. My friends and t are avid readers and would love to exchange books with one another. So, I often lend my books, mostly English books to my besties and get in return some comic books to read in my free time.
6 Have you borrowed books from others?
As I have said, I have a circle of friends who are bookworms! which means I’m in the habit of borrowing some comic books from my friends to while away the time during days off or just to catch up on things in the Manga world.
7 Do you read professional books ?
At the moment, I’m getting bogged down with work! so I can’t manage decent time for reading books related to my major field of study, but in the past during my university years, I had to say I was a bookworm, and purchased books every week to enhance my expertise.
Speaking Part 1
1What is the difference between the role of a teacher and a parent in the education of children?
I think the role of teachers is to impart knowledge and inspire students to learn. Parents, on the other hand, need to teach children how to behave properly and set an example for them to follow. If children encounter problems they should be able to consult both parents and teachers. In my country, from primary school to high school, each class is assigned a “head teacher” who would know the students very well and students can turn to this teacher for advice.
2What suggestions would you give to teachers to improve education?
I think each teacher has a different style of teaching which may not work well for all students. Frankly a perfect teacher doesn’t exist. However, there are two things that all teachers should aim to achieve, which are knowledge and inspiration. Teachers should be able to provide accurate knowledge and inspire students to study. The latter is sometimes very difficult but they should at least try.
3What is the best way to educate children in your opinion?
Children must go to school and also take part in extracurricular activities to become well-rounded people. Knowledge is important as it shapes your thinking and builds your ability to work. But interpersonal communication is just as important, so activities where children spend time together are also necessary. Hobbies are good to have too, as they keep children from being lonely.
4How can we help children realize their talents?
Children need to be exposed to a variety of school subjects and activities before they can know what they’re really interested in. What’s important is that when they realise they have a certain talent, they should be allowed to nurture this talent and have a career using it.
5Does the government provide enough support to education in your view?
There isn’t enough support yet, especially in remote areas where children don’t go to school or often drop out after a few years because the family can’t provide for them and they have to work when they reach a certain age.
Books
24How often do you read?
As a final year student I spend most of my time on reading, especially textbooks and other reference books that my lecturers recommend in the reading list. I’m also a fan of novels or fictions, but only during summer break that I have time to read them.
25Do you have many books at home?
Totally. I’m a bookaholic to be honest. I enjoy going to annual book fairs where they usually run big sales to get lots of books without much worries ‘bout the price. Since my parents are also book-nerds, I think the number of books we have is even enough to open a bookstore.
26Do Vietnamese people do enough reading?
If you mean reading something meaningful and realistic, I must say it’s not enough. The young generation are too into technology that I don’t think they have time for reading. Plus, publishing nowadays is not as strictly selective as it used to be, thus the young mostly read a number of books which indeed have no value at all, compared to Les Miserable, Gone with the wind, Jane Eyre, etc.
27What kind of people like reading and what kind of people don’t like reading very much?
From my point of view, I think book-nerds are those who prefer putting themselves into the character’s shoe, you know, they wanna interact with the story, the characters on their own way. Some of them love to imagine how the story is supposed to continue while some keep wondering what they would do if the drama suddenly happened in their real life. Those who do not like to read are either too busy with their life that they even can’t remember the characters’ names, or they prefer listening, I mean, they have someone read the story and tell them the ending only.
