In the ultra modern epoch, there is paradigm shift in the daily consumption of sugar per individual which has proved to have horrendous effects on one’s health. However, there are predominantly two contrasting views where a section of society deems that it is government’s responsibility to control the dietary limit of sugar consumption while other emphasises that it’s one’s own responsibility.

Apparently, various factors make a section of people advocate that it is onus of supreme bodies to curb this situation and have many reasons to substantiate it. First and foremost, not only government can restrict the sugar supply in the market by imposing sugar tax, but also by charging penalties on the companies which produce products with high percentage of sugar in it. To vindicate, a recent research by BBC revealed that in 2001, when the authorities of Malaysia imposed tax on sugar eatables, the sales of sweets product dramatically dropped by 30%. Secondly, unlike the bygone days, the successive governments has myriad platforms through which they can spread the awareness among individuals regarding detrimental ramifications of excessive sugar intake. Seemingly, executive bodies should promote healthy substitutes of sugar like honey instead of white sugar.

Nevertheless, some believe that individuals should limit sugar consumption for myriad reasons. Chiefly, if populace themselves take responsibility to mitigate sugar amount, it will help them to stay fit and healthy. To corroborate, as per Forbes magazine, it has been exhibited that the rate of diabetic patients dropped by 27% over a decade as people has lowered the consumption of sugar. Additionally, should people be held responsible for their bad health by consuming excessive sugar? Certainly yes, since they are the one who knows what is good or bad for them. Hence, they must take care and avoid intake of extra sugar to lead a healthy life.

In my profound opinion, although sugar plays a paramount significant role in contributing to the flavour of food, however it has its own inherited downsides which entails diabetes, heart- related problems, acne and more. Needless to state, the joint efforts by government and individual can mitigate this menace.
