Not all drivers obey the laws while driving on roads. What are the reasons for this? What can be done to fix this problem? IELTS | IELTS writing task-2

Not all drivers obey the laws while driving on roads. What are the reasons for this? What can be done to fix this problem?

Indubitably, traffic violations are a burning issue. It has increased at an alarming rate. It is believed that in the modern era, nations across the globe are confronting carelessness of drivers. Apparently, modernization and westernization is to be blamed for this universal phenomenon. However, the joint efforts of the government and individuals can overcome this perennial problem.

Fundamentally, the predominant factors that evidently trigger it can be observed. To begin with, not only most prevalent drivers across the developing nations illiterate, but also are reluctant towards caring for the lives of common man plying on streets. Secondly, unlike drivers with all legal documents like commercial license, these rule breakers hardly make an effort to procure the authority to drive. To corroborate, it is revealed through a BBC research that up to 20% of taxi drivers in India are illegally driving without any valid licenses which puts risk to lives of people using it as well as others on roads. Hence, it is destined for accidents to happen at an unprecedented scale until these drivers exist without legal documents and laws knowledge.

Nevertheless, there are potential measures to curb this menace. Chiefly, if successive governments start running awareness campaigns at distinct stages across cities to widen taxi drivers’ vision and sense, it will have substantial contribution in mitigating haphazard driving. Furthermore, does the common man reap the benefits of stringent checks across roads for these nonchalant drivers? Certainly yes as there will be a paradigm shift in untowardly incidents and contribute towards exponential  decrease in casualties caused by road accidents. To vindicate, according to Road Aware magazine with the advances in such measures, there has been a decrease of up to 30% in road accidents.

To recapitulate, although there are harrowing acts of road rages evident, implementation of curative measures mentioned above can certainly bring safer horizons for road dwellers and others travelling by foot.
