While some people argue that children should begin learning a foreign language at primary school, others believe that it is more appropriate to start at secondary school. This essay will discuss both perspectives before presenting my considered opinion.

On the one hand, many people believe that children should learn a foreign language from an early age. Firstly, not only are young children generally more receptive to new languages, but also they can develop accurate pronunciation and natural communication skills; therefore, starting early may enable them to achieve greater fluency in the long term. For example, children who are exposed to English through songs, games and classroom activities from primary school often develop a stronger understanding of pronunciation and everyday expressions. Secondly, unlike older students, young learners tend to acquire languages intuitively rather than relying heavily on grammatical rules. Hence, it is considered that introducing a foreign language at primary school can provide children with a strong linguistic foundation.
