Some people think that public health within a country can be improved by government making laws regarding nutritious food. Others, however, think that health is a matter of personal choice and responsibility. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
The world has witnessed paradigm shift in eating habits of people resulting in prolifically inactive lifestyle. However, there are two contrasting views where a section of society deems that successive governments should regulate nutrition to improve public wellness, while other emphasises that it should be people’s fundamental decision whether to pursue a healthy diet or not.
Apparently, various factors make a section of people advocate that Legislators could impose laws concerning nutritious food in an effort to have a healthier population and have many reasons to substantiate it. First and foremost, not only the rulers could impose a levy on unhealthy food options ,but also reduce their availability on the grocery stores shelves. For example, according to BBC research it is revealed that in Italy, products such as carbonated sugary drinks and chips are heavily taxed. As a result, the sales of these items had decreased at an unprecedented scale. Secondly, educating the public about a healthy diet, which would help people make better-informed decisions about the food they consume.
On the other hand, some believe that populace should be responsible for their choices regarding the food and drinks they decide to intake for myriad reasons. Chiefly, limiting snacks option, even if it is done with the best outcome in mind, could consequently create dissatisfaction among the population, which would possibly lead to other public issues such as protests and demonstrations. For instance, according to Forbes magazine it is revealed that restricting personal freedom could exponentially result in social unrest and for that reason diet decisions are better to be left up to well-informed individuals. Furthermore, In spite of being dependent on others for a good health, millennial must take care of themselves to lead a fit and healthy life.
In my profound opinion, even though food and exercise freedom is a human right, and no one is allowed to control the food options or the physical activities of people yet governments are capable of limiting unhealthy diets and promoting training among inhabitants.
