Sample Answer

These days many countries face excessive traffic. What are the reasons? Describe solutions ?

It is an undeniable fact that excessive traffic congestion has become a pressing concern in today’s world. However, apparently, rapid modernisation and the pursuit of technological dominance are to be blamed for this issue. Nevertheless, a joint effort by governments and individuals can help control this menace.

Fundamentally, several reasons are associated with the rise in traffic congestion. Firstly, not only has the growing population increased the number of private vehicles on roads so that traffic volume exceeds road capacity, but also inadequate public transport systems force people to rely heavily on personal cars; therefore, traffic jams have become unavoidable in urban areas. For example, a BBC study found that cities with weak public transport infrastructure experience longer commuting hours. Secondly, unlike the past, people now prefer private vehicles over shared transportation due to comfort and status concerns. Hence, it is considered that uncontrolled urbanisation and poor planning are major contributors to traffic problems.

Nonetheless, adequate measures must be taken to mitigate this problem. Primarily, if governments invest in efficient and affordable public transport systems, traffic congestion can be significantly reduced, since people will be encouraged to shift away from private vehicles. For instance, according to Forbes magazine, cities that expanded metro and bus networks witnessed a noticeable decline in road traffic. Furthermore, individuals should adopt practices such as carpooling and using eco-friendly transport because collective responsibility can ease pressure on roads. Thus, it is regarded that both authorities and individuals have a significant role in overcoming this issue.

To conclude, although excessive traffic is caused by rapid urbanisation, population growth, and increased dependence on private vehicles, several steps can be taken to reduce its impact. Needless to say, strict measures by authorities and responsible action from individuals are necessary to eradicate this practice from the world.
