In the past, people used to travel abroad to look many differences from their home country. Nowadays, the scenaries in places all over the world are more and more similar. What are the causes of similarities? do you think the advantages of this trend outweighs the disadvantages?

Indubitably, travelling abroad gives people numerous opportunities to explore more about the world. It is believed that owing to globalization the architectures in cities often initiate the style of those from other countries, making the appearance difference between cities globally being smaller. However, this trend brings about a mixed bag of both boon and bane, I personally think disadvantages outshines advantages.

Fundamentally, there are myriad reason for the similarities. Firstly, the resemblances in architecture,  which is paramount significance in assimilation for very long time. For instance, Vietnam , a country in south east Asia, used to be a colony of china, France, and America for thousands of years. Henceforth, the existence of many French -styled buildings as well as those with Chinese style. Secondly, globalization has led to people’s imitation of lifestyles. Subsequently, the American lifestyle is very popular among young people, they try to catch up with American’s makeup styles, trendy clothes, and their life habits. Moreover, integration can also be considered as the cause of the appearance of skyscrapers, cafe shops, and restaurants, which are similar views that we can find in downtown areas I big cities around the world. To vindicate, KFC and McDonald’s chains can be seen in most parts of the world.

Nevertheless, on the destructive part , there appears to be detrimental effects for this trend. Chiefly, every nation has their own cultural identities, which is our ancestor’s most treasure able heritage. Consequently, globalization has dismal consequences on the cultural diversity of each country. At the outset, this trend will make global tourism pointless and boring since all places are becoming identical, tourists will no longer be interested in visiting other countries. To illustrates, the Forbes magazine published the survey that 50 to 60% people are lacking their interest in tourism, as everything looks similar and there is no fascination and curiosity to travel. Additionally, the damage that globalization has done to the environment. To integrate, each country has to develop, industrialize to compete with others. Seemingly, this economic competition will drastically lead to pollution because of the building of factories and high-rise buildings. Furthermore, in the process of globalization, we produce a large number of advanced technologies, which are imported from abroad. Therefore, this will make people rely on foreign technology and not put efforts in learning and researching.

Suffice to say that albeit, the similarities are inevitable outcome of modernization and cultural globalization. It indeed bring people closer, it have a potential threat to our local culture. Henceforth, it is suggested that we should  consider a balance between city development and cultural preservation.
