It is important for towns and cities to have large public spaces such as squares and parks. To what extend to you agree or disagree?

It is an undeniable fact that towns and parks have a substantial contribution in the beautification and providing leisure to the population. It is often argued that it is vital for towns to have open spaces such as squares and parks. However,  I partially agree with the given notion.

Apparently, open spaces and parks have a vital role for the residents of the city. Chiefly, these are the hubs where people can come and relax not only these places help to increase the tourism , but also help in generating the revenue for the government. To corroborate, according to BBC research it has been found that the city centre of Madrid has been the prime spot for tourist boasting the several local markets and traditions and holds a substantial contribution in the revenue generation for the government. Secondly, Unlike the bygone days, in this ultra modern epoch where everyone is glued to their screens and seldomnly engage in physical activities , these places help them to stay physically active on an unprecedented scale. Thus, open places such as parks and open corridors have a plethora of benefits for the residents as well as the government.

Nevertheless, there are several shortcomings when a city invests on such project. Chiefly, If cities allocates a dedicated space for towns and parks , it can create an unexpected problems such as less space for housing and school buildings. To vindicate, according to Forbes magazine it has been found that countries like China  which are densely populated have very little space left for public zones due to the ever increasing population. Furthermore,  Is it necessary to build these open spaces and not housing and other facilities for the residents? Certainly no , the authorities have to plan intelligently in order to have both open spaces as well as housing and educational facilities despite the increasing population.

To recapitulate, although it is necessary for the government to provide basic facilities to its residents yet it is important for them to build parks and open spaces in order to keep its residents happy.
