Living in a country where you have to speak a foreign language can cause serious social problems as well as practical problems. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement.

It is an undeniable fact that in today’s ultra-modern epoch, people have innumerable opportunities available in spite of language barriers, in order to reap the benefits of foreign culture. It is often argued that communicating in a foreign language has dismal consequences socially and practically. However, I partially agree to the given notion.

Apparently, Proficiency in foreign language has plethora of constructive benefits. To begin with, is good hold over an alien language a contributING factor towards an overall development of a person? Certainly, yes. Despite the fact that one is new to a foreign language, learning it can be of paramount significance. One can obtain various opportunities related to career, personal development and many more considerably, rather than considering a language as a barrier to communication one should build a hold over it, thanks to technological development and manifold language learning coaching centers. Secondly, a person is considerably benefitted by adapting a new culture despite of linguistic barrier. Exploring a new culture is a relishing activity conspicuously it provides a person to know about the culture prevalent in foreign land along with recreating oneself during a visit to it, in spite of feeling isolated. Thirdly, having a knowledge of second language is an inherited advantage seemingly it adds on to the value of a person and increases its demand in the market. To vindicate, in Canada, a person who is familiar to French language other than English is given priority over others on account of the fact that French is considered as a second language in the country. Moreover, it is of substantial contribution to give one’s resume an additional advantage.

On the other hand, it has myriad of detrimental effects, To begin with, many a times, language obstruction becomes egregious impediment. People find it hard to interact with foreign men owing to language barrier subsequently it becomes cumbersome task to express oneself. Moreover, language hindrance limits the social circle of a person henceforth hampers a mental ability. Nonetheless, it broadens a horizon between a section of society. Furthermore, people have to depend on translators every while. Relying on a device to understand a written or spoken language becomes an abominable task. To illustrate, the study conducted by BBC in 2019 reveals that the usage of translators for Japanese and French language has increased rapidly over a decade. Adding on, people come across potential problems while communicating, in due course, they feel offended and hinder their emotions from expressing.

To recapitulate, Communicating in an unfamiliar dialect is a double edged sword. Although, it is of utmost importance in building oneself, exploring new culture and deriving benefits of prioritizing, it has serious ramifications on communication, confining social circle and dependency on technological innovations. Therefore, it is both a boon and bane for a global village.
