Some countries invest in specialized sports facilities for top athletes but not for the average people. Is this a positive or negative development?
Indubitably, sports elites have paramount significance in building reputation of a country. It is often argued that numerous nations channelise staggering amount of money for sportspersons as compared to ordinary folks. However, it is a constructive as well as destructive trend.
Apparently, government providing luxury treatment for sports elites only hold wide range of constructive benefits. First and foremost, not only specialized sports facilities with advanced technological sources provide platform for practice which increases their chance of participating in Olympic Games ,but also these splendiferous facilities make sure about the quality of sources in order to create safe environment for sportspersons. For instance, plethora of athletics facilities have well furnished swimming pools, fitness centres and government spend big chunks of money for the maintenance of these facilities. Secondly, unlike ordinary folks, sportspersons brings a glory to country while representing country worldwide which creates a constructive ripples in the minds of younglings. Seemingly, on the broader spectrum sports elites symbolizes the fitness which brings paradigm shift in the society.
On the other hand, supreme bodies initialising funds on professional athletes ignoring amateurs have myriad detrimental consequences. Chiefly, if regime do not provide the same facilities to the ordinary people, it will beget harrowing upshots on society as they pay their taxes and great contributor to revenue of the country. To corroborate, BBC did a recent survey that common people paid almost 20% taxes every year from which government benefitted considerably. Hence, they should have equal rights for social amenities. Furthermore, despite the fact that international competitions and reputation of a country is indispensable, allocating funds in professional needs only does not pay off in the long run because the construction and maintenance of sports halls are expensive. On top of that, society has other fundamental issues, which are in need of funds, such as the health care system, city infrastructures and environmental issues.
To recapitulate, although renowned players sets the standard of country so high on worldwide also encourage the youngster towards prosperity yet country can only survive on the shoulders of common man. Needless to say that they deserve equality in terms of facilities.
