The department has sent out an opinion survey to see what residents feel about the given options.
Traffic Management Survey
Option A : Department should issue more tickets with heavy penalties.
Option B: Department should organize traffic awareness programs on a regular basis.
I vehemently reckon imposing heavy fines will bring paradigm shift in mitigating traffic. Even though education is the best weapon to change the world hence a sustained public education campaign to sensitise people will have paramount significance yet the constructive ripples of levying whopping fines is unsurpassable.
Firstly, not only the fear of a hefty penalty would encourage “careful” conduct of driver on the road ,but also it would curb down the fatalities due to road accidents as it has been witnessed that drivers who habitually ignore fundamental precautions and violate traffic rules are the cause of major accidents. To substantiate, the Modi government recently amended the Motor Vehicles Act, exponentially rising (up to 10 times) penalties for traffic offences to halve deaths and injuries from road accidents.
Secondly, unlike campaigning which can consume lion's share of successive governments fund and time, an escalating penalty for driving at an inappropriate speed, jumping red lights, or driving through restricted areas would have substantial contribution in curtailing congestion. Prudence will prevail, If the heavy penalties are implemented on an unprecedented scale.
Considering these reasons, I firmly believe that the quantum of fines should be high enough to deter the violator from putting his own life and the life of others at grave risk. Again, these are my personal beliefs, but I will support whatever the traffic management decides to do.
I appreciate the chance provided to me to voice my opinion.
