In today’s world private companies rather than government pay for and conduct most scientific research. Do you think the advantages outweigh its disadvantages? IELTS | IELTS WRITING TASK-2

In today’s world private companies rather than government pay for and conduct most scientific research. Do you think the advantages outweigh its disadvantages?

Indubitably, science has a substantial contribution in the growth of a nation's economy. It is often argued that in the contemporary era, research work should be executed by private companies instead of government institutes. However, even though this practice brings about a mixed bag of both boon and bane, demerits outshine merits.

Apparently, conducting scientific work via private industries holds myriad detrimental ramifications. First and foremost, it not only hires employees from other nations ,but also offers them high salaries and other benefits. This could lead to an exponential rise in the unemployment rate of the host country. To vindicate, according to BBC research, In 2015, a prolific increase in unemployed inhabitants has been witnessed in America when they handed-over their research work to a private organization. Secondly, unlike confidentiality maintained inside local government companies, information could be leaked easily in these private multinational companies and personal data can be compromised at an unprecedented scale. Thirdly, if non-governmental bodies run the whole scientific research, benefits will be derived by them directly which is not a positive sign for the economy of the host country.

Nevertheless, it holds constructive benefits. A paramount significance is that research work gets easily accomplished, when skilled people from any part of the world, who are working in private companies, can participate and share their inputs towards the task they are trying to achieve. To corroborate, per Forbes magazine, private companies deliver research work at a much faster pace in comparison to local research centres. Furthermore, is it easy to get a job in such private companies? Certainly yes, since these companies give preference to talent and skilled people can reap the benefits from it, whereas working in a government organization requires high qualifications and multiple years of experience.

To recapitulate, although there are numerous constructive ripples of using a private company for research work, it has distinct disadvantages for the host nation such as disclosure of data. Needless to state, cons massively tide over pros.
