some customs and traditions are no longer used and should be finished up. To what extent do you agree ? IELTS | IELTS WRITING TASK-2

some customs and traditions are no longer used and should be finished up. To what extent do you agree ?

Indubitably, a custom is a commonly accepted manner of behaving or doing something in a particular society, place or time and a tradition is the transmission of customs or beliefs from generation to generation. It is often argued that those traditions and customs should be discarded completely which are not used anymore. However, I partially agree to the given notion.

Apparently, the practice of every customs and traditions hold wide range of constructive benefits. First and foremost, it not only strengthens the bonding between family members, but also keeps them connected to their historical roots. To vindicate, according to BBC research, a prolific increase has been witnessed in the bonding of family members, when all family members and relatives celebrate an event, such as wedding, together by following the traditional way defined in their culture. Secondly, unlike the bygone days, in the modern era youngsters disrespect elders Since, parents have no time to inculcate moral and traditional values which entails dismal consequences on their holistic development. Hence, traditional values according to the Hindu tradition, when you touch the feet of an elder person, you are in turn blessed with knowledge, intellect, strength and fame which has paramount significance for the gradual evolvement of children.

Nevertheless, avoiding some redundant customs is a host of ostensible factor for myriad reasons. Chiefly, prudence will prevail, if people mitigate the implementation of some futile customs and traditions in their life. It will prove auxiliary in the upliftment of their lifestyle, and also in the progression of the country. To corroborate, per Forbes magazine, in many rural areas of India, a widow is compelled to sacrifice herself by sitting atop her deceased husband's funeral pyre. Eliminating such rituals will give an opportunity to women to live their life again. Furthermore, are rituals which are extremely prejudiced and at times cruel against a specific group, such as women or LGBT or lower caste people should be prohibited? Certainly yes, in southern India in a religious practice daughters are given by parents in local temples for the service of the deity and are married to them before they reach puberty and are later forced into prostitution. Therefore, such practices should be stopped.

To recapitulate, although there are numerous predominant positives associated with the usage of distinct customs and traditions in a person's life, those beliefs which have detrimental repercussions and lead to discrimination amongst the populace should be ignored and abandoned permanently.
