A local NGO working for the betterment of school-going kids, especially focusing on reducing the stress level in the new generation has sent out an opinion survey to see what people think about the presence of multimedia gadgets in house.
NGO Conducting a Survey:
Option A: Kids should have no access to gadgets like smartphones or ipads etc
Option B: Kids should be encouraged to read books in their free time
Firstly, not only reading is a fundamental practice to boost the memory of a child. When a child reads a story, they remember its characters, associations, and background details which in turn has substantial contribution in improving their memory power and generate a better understanding ,but also when they start to read, their mind gets peace and it serves as a great brain exercise which is a key factor influencing their better cognitive and analysing skills. To substantiate, according to chronicle of higher education it is revealed that unlike younglings with no reading habits neither get in touch with emotions nor have decision-making skills, children with reading practice can confront every challenge of their lives. Their brain works at a faster pace, and they know the difference between moral and immoral. Thus, they can take an immediate decision than others.
Secondly, it is well said that if you stop someone from doing something, they try to indulge themselves more in that particular thing. likewise children should be taught the ethical ways of using gadgets which will have paramount significance in their holistic development irrespective of giving no access to electronic gadgets. They must be introduced to sites such as kindle, International children's digital library, Tumblebooks and Storyline online which can give a headstart to their literary career. Prudence will prevail, if parents provide the best books to their children.
Considering these reasons, I firmly believe reading novels is also a source of fun and entertainment. Again, these are my personal beliefs, but I will support whatever the NGO decides to do.
I appreciate the opportunity to provide input on this issue.
