In some
countries, people are purchasing fewer new items and more secondhand good. What
are the reasons for this? Is this positive or negative trend?
SAMPLE ANSWER : It is undeniable fact that there has been
tremendous increase in the purchasing power of people due to increase in
wealth. In this contemporary era, it is often agreed that people opt for more
of second hand items as compared to new items. Apparently, various factors
breed its popularity. However, it is constructive trend.
Fundamentally, the predominant factors that trigger it can be
observed. To begin with, refurbished goods plays a paramount significance in
the present era, due to its cheaper availability along with the same quality of
fresh product. This enables people to act profoundly and purchase used items
benefiting considerably in their expenditure. Secondly, for many of the reasons,
there arises need to buy a product for specific time or period. To elaborate,
it has been observed that consumers buy a old car to master their driving
skills, creating an exponentially rise in the consumption of secondhand goods.
Thirdly, individual can reap the benefits for enjoying their dream car or bike,
or any other product with the immense happiness, as the cost of buying new one
may not fall in their budget due to low income, especially the middle class
group of people.
Nevertheless, I find this trend constructive going to myriad
reasons. Chiefly, this lead to significant contribution in the positive
development of the environment. Besides, in this modern era, reuse or recycling
of items act as a major factor in diminishing the detrimental effects on the
level of wastage created by the society. In addition to this, rotation of items
from one to another results in stimulating growth of producing more goods, due
to the prolific increase in the demand. Moreover, search trend creates an
atmosphere of satisfying personal needs of the consumer with the effective use
of the item again. Also, it brings out the opportunities of employment for the
workers expert in the field of repairs or maintenance add a prolific increase
rate as consumers are now acting in a responsible way to take proper advantage
of a product through repairing it, if damaged as comparison to buy a completely
new item.
To recapitulate, with the development in technology there will
be highly increase in the demand, showing rise in the purchase ratio. But
certainly with this trend of bringing second hand good as compared to new items
it will positively benefit the consumers as well as the society overall in the
lesser damage to the environment.
