More and more people are leaving the countryside and moving to cities. Do the advantages of this trend outweigh its disadvantages? | IELTS | IELTS writing task-2

More and more people are leaving the countryside and moving to cities. Do the advantages of this trend outweigh its disadvantages?

Indubitably, the world is witnessing a great influx of population moving from rural areas to metropolitan cities since the last decade and it is still ongoing. However, even though this practice brings about a mixed bag of both boon and bane, pros outshines cons.

On the constructive part, society is blessed with numerous benefits which are worth mentioning. To begin with, moving to mega cities not only provides superior lifestyles, but also better job opportunities. To facilitate this, in urban areas we have amenities like fitness clubs, restaurants and cafes, cinema halls and playgrounds which are missing in rural areas. Secondly, unlike people living countryside, cities stimulate considerable contribution towards augmenting knowledge about diverse cultures and fosters better cognitive skills and effective communication skills among individuals. Therefore, dwelling in mega cities offers promising development for the people living countryside.

On the destructive part, there appears to be potential shortcoming from this trend. Chiefly, if more and more people started residing in cities, it would affect the culture and tradition of countryside areas at an unprecedented scale. To vindicate, people living in cities follow western culture and tradition which combats our traditional background.  Besides, exponential rise in population, environment pollution, traffic congestion, cut-throat competition and life bundled with stress and anxiety. Thus, a limit should be imposed on the movement of people otherwise we might end up losing everything.

Suffice to say, although the tranquility and healthy lifestyle of countryside can never be replaced, the enhancing needs for human resources in the megacities stimulate citizens to migrate from rural areas.
