As reading is
important for a good education, we should encourage our children to read
whatever appeals to them.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with
this statement?
SAMPLE ANSWER : Reading is a pillar that strengthens the
good education. Many children develop reading habits by watching their parents
while others have an inherent inclination towards reading. It is often argued
that children must have the freedom to read whichever genre they find
interesting. However, I second partly with this notion.
Apparently, reading
good content always lays a strong foundation for the future of readers and it
aids in the development of multiple survival skills. Thus, if a youngling is
interested in reading particular genres such as fiction, biographies and
memoir, must be supported by parents because of pragmatic applications of these
books in real life. Secondly, reading only the books of a particular content
such as historic contents, novels and classic stories aid in mastering the
skills of reading and writing which in long run can be used as a career option.
For instance, Twinkle Khanna, highest paid Indian female author admitted that
she has been reading books since her childhood and she adopted a career as a
writer after failing miserably in film line.
On the other hand,
parents should be cautious about the content of the Material their young ones
are consuming because many books are suitable only for adult populations. In
other words, reading such books which does not cater the purpose of
developing skills is totally futile and it rather has a negative effect on the
mind of children as their mental processes are not fully developed. Secondly,
books such as comics and animation theme stories have little or no value for
the personal lives and it is merely a way of killing free time without any
evident advantages. Additionally, such books make them involved in the fantasy
world and children start becoming reclusive from the real world as they find
the world claimed in books is more comforting. For instance, many young girls
are engrossed with the famous character Barbie stories and they avoid playing
the real games.
Suffice to say,
albeit, reading is vital for every individual to survive and it is considered
as the most productive hobby. However, the parents should always keep an eye on
what their children are reading and guide them to choose the best
material for them.
